Steven likes to use acrylic on traditional stretched canvas.  He enjoys a range of subjects including landscapes, portraits, pet portraits and figurative work.

He takes commissions as well as exhibiting in galleries.

His particular passion are his collection of interpretationist portraits of the late 19th Century, early 20th Century French theatre actress Sarah Bernhardt.  He calls these ‘The Sarah Bernhardt Collection’ for which he uses mainly three pigments. Theses are Titanium White, Burnt Umber and Paynes grey in a technique he calls ‘The Sepia Effect’.  Other colours are used if deemed necessary.  With this technique, he hopes to create them with the feel of  early photography.

He aims to capture Sarah Bernhardt’s own character and that of the character she is portrayed as performing

His more conventional landscapes are also created with acrylic on canvas.  Using a full range of colours Steven aims to capture the beauty of form and colour.

He is attracted to the hard lines of buildings combined with the softer textures of vegetation and human forms which often feature in his work

Steven has drawn a number of commissions for his animal pictures - contact him to discuss these directly.
